Parking and Traffic

CCA is a commuter school. This means that streets around the school maybe more congested than around typical neighborhood schools. Therefore, carpooling is strongly recommended.

It is extremely important that everyone follow traffic procedures. These procedures are in place to promote safety, efficiency and also to function within the limitations imposed by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department and the County. Please refer to the CCA Student Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures below.  In addition, CCA is a NO PHONE ZONE during morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up. Your compliance is essential for the safety of everyone.

The oldest student’s release time will dictate when and where younger siblings and carpool members are picked up.  Since older students are dismissed at a later time, younger siblings and carpool members will also be dismissed at a later time.

For example, if you have a student who is in third grade and has a seventh grader sibling/carpool the third grader will go to the cafeteria and wait in the area for 3:35 Bear.  At 3:30 a staff member will go to the cafeteria and pick up all the 3:35 Bear siblings and take them out to Caley to be picked up with their sibling or carpool.

Yes, the line is long, but it will move quickly when everyone follows the rules.

  1. Stay in line! Very simple, just like any line we get behind the person and wait until it moves up. Do not pull around the waiting cars and cut in line.
  2. All students need to be ready to exit the car (passenger side ONLY) once the car has pulled up and has stopped.
  3. Please limit the use of the trunk for holding students backpacks. This takes up time and we have had some cars slide into the back of other cars, especially when it has been icy and snowy.
  4. If you need to talk, sign papers or give lengthy directions or goodbyes we ask that you please pull into a neighborhood or park on Elmira Circle at the bottom of the hill and walk your student/students in from there. Drop off is meant to be a very speedy process.
  5. The outside staff is there to assist your students. Please stay in your car and pull up. Should your student need assistance please let them know. Do not get out of your cars. If you feel you need to watch your student walk through the front door, you will need to pull all the way up to the sign at the top of the line. Do not hold up traffic.
  6. There big yellow sign that is about two car lengths past the front lot that says “Drop off your student(s) after this point. Keep students in the car until you have passed this sign” please follow it. Having students dropped off so far back does back up traffic and no staff members are there to help assist the students.

Please adhere to the pick up times and locations posted above. Remember due to constancy and safety we ask that even if a there is an afterschool activity, or the older sibling/carpool is absent that we stick to the same pick up time throughout school. This is to be a speedy process as well so please follow all the traffic rules.
  1. Show up at scheduled pick up times and locations. Do not show up early as this does not allow the students from the time before to be picked up. If you show up early you will be asked to exit the line and come back at your scheduled time.
  2. Stay in line! Very simple, just like any line we get behind the person and wait until it moves up. Do not pull around the waiting cars and cut in line.
  3. Shaded areas are not a placed to park and wait. Others see you sitting in the shade and try to pull around you and this causes problems. Please pull up in the line.
  4. Continue to pull forward. All students will enter the car via the passenger side ONLY and once the car has pulled up and has stopped. There is NO exception to this rule! If you have a car seat the student will either have to go under it or around it. Getting out or in the car from the driver side is extremely dangerous.
  5. Stay in your cars. A staff member will walk your student to your car and help them get in.
  6. This is NOT the time to try and speak to your students’ teacher. Please email their teacher and ask for a time to meet. If you happen to be meeting with the teacher we ask that you park your car in the neighborhoods and walk in. The teacher will meet with you after their pick up duties are finished. The front lot is closed from 7:25am – 8:15am and again at 2:45pm – 3:45pm. The back lot is only for staff parking and afternoon dismissal.

Please ensure that you are following all of CCA’s traffic rules, including those listed below. They are in place to keep our children safe and secure.  If these rules are broken we will not allow you to pick up your student/carpool until we open the front lot at 3:45pm.

Should you decide to park in the neighborhood and walk in your student/students you need to use the crosswalk. A staff member is at the light on Dayton and Caley ready to assist you across safely. Cars DO NOT expect people, let alone students, to come out between cars and some are not paying attention.

  1. Neighborhood Etiquette: according to the Colorado parking law, no vehicle may be parked….

    • Within 15 Feet of a Fire Hydrant
    • Within 20 Feet of a Crosswalk
    • Within 30 Feet of a Flashing Beacon, Signal, Stop Sign, or Yield Sign
  2. Please be aware of the NO PARKING signs located in the neighborhoods.
  3. Right-hand turns from Caley Avenue onto South Florence Way are prohibited. There is a sign before the four-way stop posted.
  4. Driving on the sidewalk when completing U-turns is ILLEGAL.
  5. U-turns are illegal on Caley Avenue and there are signs posted.
  6. Left-hand turns into CCA’s parking lot and onto Elmira Circle are illegal from 7:15 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Our front parking lot will be closed from 7:25am – 8:15am and again from 2:45pm – 3:45pm. Do not move the chain!
  7. Double parking is never allowed. If cars are along the side of the road please pull in behind them. STAY IN LINE!

School begins at 8:05 a.m. Therefore, supervision for student drop-off is provided from 7:30 a.m. to 8:05 a.m. All students will be dropped off on the North side of Caley.  Students are not allowed to be dropped off in our back lot. This is the staff parking.

Strictly adhere to the indicated times. For example, the 3:25 crowd should not arrive early, so that the 3:15 crowd can get to the curb to pick up their children. (Times and locations may change and notification will be delivered via e-mail.)

pick up times

CCA staff will accompany students at all times. Those who do not have older CCA siblings or belong to a carpool with older members will immediately go outside to be picked up. Those who do travel with older CCA siblings or older carpool members will wait in a predetermined location for a staff member to escort them to the proper pick-up destination at the time that the older sibling or carpool member is released.

11:45am Kindergarten (including half-day kindergarten) and First Grade
11:55am Second, Third and Fourth Grades
12:05pm Fifth and Sixth Grades
12:15pm Seventh and Eighth Grades

*Half-day Kindergartners who have an older CCA sibling will be picked up at the normal location of the older student.

Locations will not change on early dismissal days.  Students with older siblings and carpool students will still wait in the cafeteria until their siblings/carpool are released.

For the safety of our students we will close the front lot and will NOT open it until the traffic is over and it is safe for the students.  Please make sure you are not in the lot during these times.

Morning lot closure: 7:25am – 8:15am
Afternoon lot closure: 2:45pm – 3:45pm

DO NOT move the chain.  It is up for the safety of our students and staff! Thank you.

Our back lot is for our staff parking ONLY. Should you need to park you need to park in the front lot during open parking times or in our neighborhood.  Please adhere to the rules and laws of parking.

We use Elmira circle (the bottom of the hill) for a pick up location.  We ask that if you park there that you please move your car before 3:15pm so our Big Horn pick up location is free for those who are picking up their students.

Children not picked up within 15 minutes after of their dismissal time will be taken to after-school care. Parents will be responsible for paying the fee. This policy will be strictly enforced.

Early pick up of students must be completed prior to 2:45 p.m. Parents must sign out their students at the Cherry Creek Academy office. The student will be called to come to the office for dismissal. For the safety and security of all students, parents must wait in the lobby near the office for their child. No dismissals will occur through the front office after 2:43. All parents will be directed to the carpool line to pick up their students after 2:43 p.m.

Student pick-up will be delayed in the event of dangerous weather including lightning, hail and high winds.

Student pick-up will be delayed if lightning strikes within one mile of the school. Ten minutes must elapse without another lightning strike within a one-mile radius of the school before normal student release can proceed. A red flag placed on Dayton and also on Caley will indicate that a delay is in progress.

Students who are already outside during a lightning strike will immediately return inside the building. Again, a red flag placed on Dayton and also on Caley will indicate that a delay is in progress. Ten minutes must elapse without another strike within a one-mile radius of the school before pick-up can resume.

Dangerous weather or persistent lightning strikes within a one-mile radius and within ten-minute intervals will result in a new pick-up location. Be aware that the process will be slower, but safer. Here are some rules and locations for pick up during these dangerous weather conditions:

  • Students who are picked up on Caley (Bear) and Elmira Circle (Big Horn) you will be entering into the front parking lot and pull up to the cone and a staff member will ask who your student/students is and radio into the building and they will come out and a staff member will put them into your car.

  • Students who are picked up in the back parking lot (Fox) will continue to be picked up back there.Following the same pick up procedures of pulling to the cone and a staff member will bring your student/students to your car.

  • The oldest student’s release time will continue to dictate when and where younger siblings and carpool members will be picked up.

  • No students will be released until 10 minutes after the last lightening strike.Cars may line up in line, but students will not be released early. Pick up times are still in effect. If you are a 3:35 please do not get in the line at 3:15, you will be asked to leave and come back at your scheduled pick up time.

  • There is NO turning left into the front parking lot.

Email/Text alerts will be sent in the event of the above scenarios. Please check your smartphone. The goal is to safely return your children, so please be patient.

A new “Authorization to Pick Up” form must be filled out when the parties picking up children have changed. Copies must be given to the homeroom teacher of each student. Forms can be attained online here.

If you have any questions, email our CCA Traffic Control Coordinator, Sadie Jesienouski or leave a message at the front office for her to call you back.  You will need to leave your name and phone number.
